Numerical filing refers to all systems in which documents are prenumbered to distinguish them from each other or from alpha documents. Numerical systems can be as simple as numbering and filing from the lowest number to the highest. Files may be numbered from 1 to 1000 and major sections may occur at regular intervals (100, 200, 300).
